For doctors preparing for the Fachsprachprüfung

Train for the three parts of the Fachsprachprüfung.

Lingua Ace trains what the exam asks for: the conversation with a patient, the doctor's report and the handover to a colleague. For each of the three parts the app shows how far along you are, before you register for the exam.

Lingua Ace is a learning app: no certificate, no pass guarantee.

Where preparation gets stuck

  • Every failed attempt costs

Whoever fails pays the fee again and waits for the next date. The whole exam is repeated, not just the part that fell short.

  • Talking to patients in plain words

Your training gave you the technical term. With a patient you need the everyday word: "Pankreas" becomes "Bauchspeicheldrüse", "Hypertonie" becomes "hoher Blutdruck".

  • The report under time pressure

In the exam you write the report on the case you have just taken, and time is short.

  • Little chance to speak

A course gives each person a few minutes of speaking. Next to shifts and family there is hardly room to practise a history or an informed-consent talk out loud.

What Lingua Ace does about it

  • Measured skill by skill

Reading, listening, writing, speaking, vocabulary and grammar are each estimated on the CEFR scale, with steps within a level. The estimates come from your answers while practising.

  • Medical language

Taking a history, informed consent, presenting a case, the discharge letter: vocabulary and situations from hospital work, with the technical term and the word a patient understands.

  • Readiness per exam part

In exam mode the app shows for each of the three parts how far along you are.

  • Conversation practice on the phone

You practise conversations with an AI partner, out loud and on your phone. Short sessions fit between two shifts.

How the Fachsprachprüfung is built

You take the Fachsprachprüfung with the licensing authority or the medical chamber it appoints. It tests medical German at level C1 in three situations from a doctor's day. Medical knowledge itself is not tested in the Fachsprachprüfung. Whoever fails repeats the whole exam.

Three parts of 20 minutes each

  • Doctor–patient conversation20 minutes
  • Documentation (doctor's report)20 minutes
  • Doctor–doctor conversation20 minutes

Each chamber sets its own fee, for example €595 in Lower Saxony and €430 at the Ärztekammer Nordrhein.

Lingua Ace is independent of the medical chambers and licensing authorities and is not an official preparation course.

How to start

For doctors who learn on their own. Starting is free.

  1. Register

Create an account with your email address and a password. Nothing has to be installed from an app store.

  2. Choose your goal

Choose the goal "Medical licence in Germany". The app then plans your practice for the Fachsprachprüfung.

  3. Placement

A placement test shows where you start in each skill.

  4. Practise daily

The app plans each day what comes next and shows how far along you are in each exam part.

For hospitals: how a pilot works

Are you preparing several doctors for the Fachsprachprüfung? A pilot shows with your own people whether Lingua Ace suits your hospital.

  1. Conversation

We talk about who will learn, which level is the goal and by when.

  2. Setup

You create the team and invite your doctors by email. Each person starts with a placement test.

  3. 8 weeks of use

Your doctors practise alongside their shifts, on the phone or on a computer.

  4. Review

We go through the anonymous team report together: activity and levels across the team, no individual results.

Questions

Who sees my results?

Only you. If you learn in a team set up by your hospital, the hospital sees a team report with totals across the whole team, and only once the team has 5 members. Individual results, answers and recordings are seen only by the learner.

Which devices are needed?

A smartphone or a computer with a current browser. Nothing has to be installed from an app store. Speaking needs a microphone; phones have one built in.

In which language are the instructions?

The app and its instructions are available in English or German. What you practise is German.

Which exam does Lingua Ace prepare for?

The Fachsprachprüfung for doctors, taken with the licensing authority or the medical chamber it appoints. Its structure is the same in all federal states, following the key points of the conference of health ministers (GMK). Fees and scoring differ from chamber to chamber.

What happens to the details in the form?

We use them only to answer your request and delete them after 12 months. Details are in the privacy policy.
